Elementary, Middle Schools Named Distinguished Schools

Recently, State School Superintendent Richard Woods released the 2022-2023 lists of Distinguished and Reward Schools, recognizing some of the very best public schools in the state.

C.B. Greer Elementary, St. Simons Elementary and Glynn Middle are among 154 schools recognized as Distinguished Schools for significant academic achievement. This designation recognizes the highest-performing Title I schools in Georgia.

"This accomplishment is a testament to the deliberate efforts and investment in our students on a daily basis as we strive to improve student learning. It wouldn't have happened without the dedication of students, teachers, staff, parents, and the community," said Eric Benson, Assistant Superintendent, Grades 6-12.

Tere Miller, Assistant Superintendent, Grades PK-5, agreed.

“Congratulations to these three schools. This recognition is a testament to their dedication, hard work and academic focus,” Miller said. "Glynn County Schools is proud of the students, staff and families for this outstanding accomplishment."

Distinguished Schools are among the highest-performing 5% of Title I Schoolwide and Title I Targeted Assistance schools based on the combined ELA and math content mastery scores from the statewide assessments of the most recent year.

“It is essential that we recognize and celebrate schools making great strides as we maintain our focus on continuous improvement for all Georgia schools,” State School Superintendent Richard Woods said.

“The schools on these lists have made significant efforts in overcoming barriers, meeting challenges, and producing great gains for their students. I applaud the 2022-23 Distinguished and Reward Schools leaders, teachers, parents, and communities for creating opportunities for student success.”

Schools must be Title I to be eligible for the Distinguished School and Reward School designations and must not currently be CSI or TSI support-identified schools. Click here for detailed criteria.
